ABOUT
THE REACTION CARDS

The Reactions Cards recognize that every reader and querent approach a reading with preconceived notions that fuel a wide range of feelings. They identify major stimuli in the lives of most dogs. Each is associated with one of the steps of transformation from the Emerald Tablet, an integral tool in alchemical transformation.

The symbols for each step as seen in each Reaction Card are from a mandala first published in Azoth of the Philosophers , 1659, by alchemist Basil Valentine. "Azoth" translates from the Greek by alchemists referred to the One Thing. The One Thing is the spiritually charged presence that manifests what we know as matter. In other religions, the One Thing is known as God.

The Emerald Tablet could easily be dated back 10,000 years, lost yet remembered in legends such as:

  • It was molded out of a single emerald or green crystal.
  • It's an extraterrestrial artifact
  • It was a gift from Atlantis

In other words, the history of the Emerald Tablet is unknown even though the content remains, although largely in symbols rather than text. The goal of alchemical practices is transmutation through chemical change. Alchemy is one of many complex Heremetic traditions.

This chart shows each Reaction card with its associated chemical and alchemical processes, and the animal of each step:
