Each lunar manazil is associated with an ancient nakshatra. While the nakshatras were understood to be the abodes where karma is stored, the lunar manazils were seen as the mansions of the gods. "Manazil" translates as "mansion" or "resting spot", and each lunar manazil corresponds to one of 28 sounds in Arabic. Of primary importance in electional astrology, the lunar manazils depict favorable times for sacred acts and can determine personality traits.
The picatrix, an Arabic magickal text, was written some time around 1,000 a.d., has become the encyclopedia of the lunar manazils. Those who transported the astronomical manazils into an esoteric tradition include: Dorotheus Sidonius in the first century, H.C. Agrippa in 1533 and George Yeats in 1918.
Further information on each lunar manazil can be found under each Abstraction Card here. All of this information and more will be included in The Book of Dognostication , to be published in 2007.
The chart below associates each Abstraction Card with a lunar manazil, translates the name of the lunar manazil and includes images, according to H.C. Agrippa, to put on talismans made when the moon passes through a particular manazil.
