ORDINARY LIVES

And ramble like
a tongue of roses
creeping up your spine

What do you expect
Hazard makes you elect

Stay within the lines
the state does not
approve of independent
re-search the state
approves the teamwork
along predictable vectors
Here for instance a group
of engineering students at
Wesleyan University just
invested metal tapioca

"I would rather" the
High Priestess said, "be indirect
and let you sense
my intent
I mean no disrespect
Hazard makes you elect."

You must make a meaningful
contribution, pay your dues
support yourself, at least
yourself and be responsible
to the greater good, god, good
neuter your pets and defoliate your arm pits
save your old newspapers
and recycle everything
that should not have been
created in the first place

The Magician said, "I would rather

is there some way out

I need time to reflect

And the criminal

the banker
the policeman
the musician
the student
the longshoreman
the countess

And the pimp

the lawyer
the lover
the housewife
and the loser
All writers, poets, prostitutes
All military personnel
All Rothschilds, Rockefellers
and other similarly blessed

ran out into the street
and made a
cardiac arrest
