Who can use The Shpieling Haggadah?
The Shpieling Haggadah is ideal for newcomes to the rite of seder as well as those who have performed the seder their entire lives. There are many haggadahs available, but only The Shpieling Haggadah tells the story in a script format so that everyone has a part to play.
Why is it called The Shpieling Haggadah?
“Shpiel” is the Yiddish word for performance. Just as the Purim Shpiel is a play depicting the story of Esther, The Shpieling Haggadah not only lays out the tasks of the rite of seder, but invites every participant to “perform” by reading roles in the story of the Exodus. The script of the story is written as a dark comedy to engage all involved.
Why use The Shpieling Haggadah?
The Shpieling Haggadah maximizes interaction between participants in an active way. Although the order of the seder is slighly modified, The Shpieling Haggadah includes the crucial traditional elements of seder. This rite of seder is designed to last 1 1/2 hours prior to the meal (except for the search for the matzoh). The Foundation of Intention and the Pyramid of Preparation help focus the issues of the seder to best address the group performing it and assist in the gathering of the sacred objects used during the ritual. A songbook is included.
